Does this Make Me Look Fat by Leah Feldon is a classic that will teach all those tricks for streamlining your appearance. Very clearly written with nice illustration. This is a must-have for your professional library.

The Fashion Designer's Directory of Shapes and Style by Simon Travers-Spencer and Zarida Zaman is a good resource for understanding the design process and for learning design-related terms such as "fitted cuff" or "drawstring hem"

Fabric Savvy by Sandra Betzina is a great primer for learning about fabric. Full color photos really add to the experience.

If you really enjoy the artistic-historical side of fashion, purchase the Dictionary of Fashion and Fashion Designers from the Thames and Hudson World of Art. It has a way of taking the mystery out of some exotic names and icons.

For that matter, if you really want to get into it, read Anne Hollander's Sex and Suits. It is a fascinating take on the history of modern fashion.

Delux: How Luxury Lost its Luster by Dana Thomas is a fascinating read that will give you the scoop on the fashion industry. Absolutely eye-opening!

A Return to Modesty by Wendy Shalit
Shalit has a sharp and witty style which makes the book hard to put down. A must-read for anyone who would like to articulate how fashion can help or harm women.
